Description
Impressive late 19th-century American Aesthetic Movement wardrobe or hall armoire, crafted in richly figured quarter-sawn tiger oak with striking “ribbon” grain throughout. The monumental case is surmounted by an elaborate carved and scrollwork crest featuring ebonized accents, while the full-length beveled mirror door is framed by highly figured oak and decorative molded trim. The interior retains adjustable shelving with traditional notched supports and a small inset mirror to the back panel, above a spacious lower storage compartment and full-width drawer.
The cabinet displays exceptional visual appeal through its extensive use of quarter-sawn oak, contrasting ebonized moldings, carved applied ornament, and architectural form. Raised on bracket feet with paneled sides and back, the piece embodies the craftsmanship and decorative exuberance associated with high-quality American furniture of the late Victorian period.
A handsome and highly functional statement piece suitable for use as a wardrobe, linen press, display cabinet, or entry hall storage.
Condition consistent with age and use, including scattered veneer losses, surface wear, shrinkage separations, minor edge losses, and wear to carved decorative elements as shown.
