Description
An elegant Regency Revival burl wood veneered work or library table dating to the early 20th century, crafted in the manner of fine English and American furniture of the period. The rectangular top is richly figured in warm honey-toned burl veneer and fitted with two hinged drop leaves, expanding the surface from a compact footprint to a more generous working area. A concealed frieze drawer provides useful storage while preserving the table’s clean architectural lines.
The table is raised on a substantial cylindrical pedestal terminating in a cross-form platform base with dramatic carved lion’s paw feet finished in contrasting ebonized tones. The striking burl veneer displays exceptional movement and depth throughout the top, apron, pedestal, and base, creating a visually impressive presentation from every angle.
Construction details, including dovetailed drawer joinery and quality veneer work, indicate a well-made example from the first half of the 20th century. Suitable for use as a writing table, lamp table, game table, or accent piece.
Condition is good overall with age-related wear consistent with use. Notable issues include veneer losses and edge wear to one side, scattered finish wear, a repaired or stabilized shrinkage crack to one drop leaf, minor surface scratches, and small chips/losses as photographed.
