Late 17th Century French Provincial Walnut Buffet Bas, 56.5″W, PA6995TF

Description

Substantial French Provincial walnut buffet bas dating to the 17th century, showcasing the robust craftsmanship and restrained elegance characteristic of provincial furniture from the Louis XIII period. The rectangular plank top is constructed with breadboard ends and retains a rich, naturally aged patina developed over centuries of use. The façade features three frieze drawers above a pair of deeply molded raised-panel doors opening to a spacious interior fitted with a removable shelf. Raised on molded bracket feet, the cabinet is built with hand-cut dovetail drawers, pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, hand-forged iron hardware, and early escutcheons, all indicative of authentic period construction.

The warm walnut displays attractive grain throughout, while generations of honest wear consistent with age and use—including shrinkage, old repairs, scattered stains, surface abrasions, and age cracks—contribute to its exceptional character and authenticity. Doors and drawers operate properly. A rare and highly decorative 17th-century French country cabinet offering ample storage for dining, entry, or living spaces.
