Exceptional Maitland-Smith Neoclassical Canterbury magazine stand, masterfully crafted in richly figured mahogany with elegant silvered metal architectural details. The dramatic crossed lyre-form supports are adorned with finely cast laurel wreaths and terminate in turned finials, reflecting the timeless influence of classical Greco-Roman design. The stand features four divided compartments for magazines, books, or folios, a single dovetailed drawer with a decorative cast pull, and concealed pull-out side trays for additional display or serving space. Raised on turned legs fitted with original brass and steel casters, this sophisticated piece functions equally well as a magazine rack, side table, or decorative accent. Retains the original Maitland-Smith brass maker’s plaque. Very good vintage condition with light, age-appropriate surface wear consistent with careful use.
