Age: Circa 1890–1910, Late Victorian / Edwardian Period

An elegant antique mahogany full-size bedstead, comprising a matching headboard and footboard distinguished by finely executed satinwood-style line inlay and decorative marquetry medallions. Dating to the turn of the 20th century, the bed reflects the restrained neoclassical influence popular during the transition from the late Victorian to Edwardian period.

Both the headboard and footboard feature broad, richly grained mahogany panels framed by contrasting linear string inlay. At the center of each is a striking oval marquetry patera, composed of contrasting woods in a geometric and foliate design and surrounded by an additional shaped line-inlaid border. The delicate inlay provides an attractive counterpoint to the warm reddish-brown mahogany.

The headboard has a predominantly straight profile, while the footboard incorporates a subtly bowed front, giving the bed greater architectural depth and visual interest. Molded framing and restrained ornament allow the figured mahogany and decorative inlay to remain the primary focus.

An attractive period bed with considerable decorative presence, particularly well suited to a guest bedroom, historic home, traditional interior, or designer setting. The relatively clean neoclassical lines also allow it to blend successfully with both antique and contemporary furnishings.

Good antique condition with age-related wear. The mahogany retains an attractive warm color and the decorative inlay and central marquetry medallions remain visually strong. There are scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, small edge losses and minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use.

The photographs show previous attachment points and hardware locations on the legs, including holes, filled areas, and evidence of earlier mounting hardware. Some areas show old repairs or touch-ups. There is also localized wear and loss to molding/finish, particularly along edges and lower portions. The backs exhibit expected scratches and wear from use.
